What an amazing night. My eyes are still puffy from crying so much.
To me, the best part was when it "hit me" that this was real. NBC had just flashed on the screen that Obama was our next president and they started panning to scenes across the country and the world where people were celebrating and we took our son outside and lit fireworks. And in the background as I could hear the rest of the world cheering from our TV, I heard the people in our neighborhood come out of their houses to light fireworks and cheer. Then my six year old threw his arms in the air and yelled, "Rock Obama is president!!!"
I went to tuck my 7 yr old daughter in, and instead of Cartoon Network she was watching Obama's acceptance speech on TV. (That's right, bad mom = TV in room, don't judge me!). But how cool is that? If he isn't bringing people together, then I don't know who is!
As we watched the televised celebrations across the country and woot-woo-ed ourselves, my Italian husband said, "It's like America just won the World Cup in soccer." Indeed. :-)
