Day 2 at SCBWI

It was standing-room only at Jay's first non-panel SCBWI workshop. Isn't this the most beautiful audience you've ever seen?

As part of Jay's workshop, he used a Powerpoint slide exposing Bruce Coville's fear of happy-faces. (And yes, it made sense in context. Kind of.)

Of course, the real reason we go to these conferences is to have tons o' fun with others in the children's lit. world. Here's the view from our hotel room, looking down at the Paint the Town Red party.

And here we are, getting ready to make our grand entrance and feeling more nervous than in any previous year.

Jay and the tallest (and nicest) guy at the conference, David LaRochelle.

Robin and Eve and lady in red, Suzanne Young.

Thank goodness I didn't go - I look terrible in red. Hopefully, the theme will be green next year.

What an honor to be included on the legendary Disco Mermaid Blog!

On Thursday, on the way from the airport to the hotel, the entire shuttle bus full of conference attendees from all across the country was talking about the Mermaids. Honest! We were cheering Jay's success and rooting for Eve and Robin to join Jay in the ranks of NYTimes best-selling authors. And of course we were contemplating what your costumes would be this year. The three of you have many more fans than you realize.

One of my big mistakes of the conference was foolishly scheduling manuscript critiques during Jay's workshop, and I was kicking myself all weekend for that gaffe.

Still, it was a delight to see the stunningly beautiful Robin and Eve and always handsome Jay in the hallways and at the red party.

You guys are legendary...and for good reason!

David, who is back in Minnesota and ready to sleep for about 20 hours

Oh, and a big smile to the Mermaids.

So good to see you 3! You looked so Viva Las Vegas in your Disco Mermaid glory. Jay, I still would like to get my book signed (which I of coarse forgot at home!).

Okay. I have had so many Facebook notifications and have posted on so many blogs and walls, that I just accidentally posted a note to Eve on Suzanne's blog! ha! ha! I am losing track of what I'm writing. Ooops! Might have to put the ol' laptop in the closet for a few days.

I think we are all having Camp Beer:30 withdrawals...
